  Background: I am 18 years old, and recently got diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in the ER three months ago. It is a scary diagnosis, especially since I was ignorant of how to take care of myself. I found this clinic (mainly just because they accepted Texas Children's CHIP Insurance), and my first appointment was with Dr. Bilkis. Appointments: She was very forthcoming about what would be good for me, and what I may have to change. I appreciated that. She thoroughly explained how I should manage my food and insulin dosage, and gave me the contact of her preferred dietitian. Since then, I have improved with her help and analysis. 3 months into this, she has fought to get me on a pump that my insurance covers. The process has been smooth, and I feel comfortable with the knowledge I have now. Other: I have had no negative interactions at this clinic. Every nurse, doctor, and employee has a friendly attitude. Labs/paperwork is generally submitted in a timely manner. I have had a billing concern here and after getting in touch with the billing department, I quickly got the resolution I was looking for. Overall, I'd say this place deserves a positive chance because I've had nothing but a good experience.
